Blizzard

Despite the blizzard outside, I’m going in the hot tub tonight. Actually, if it weren’t snowing, I probably wouldn’t go in the tub, but because it’s snowing, I’m going in. I just turned it up to 102 - can’t wait.

Oh, yeah - there’s a near blizzard outside. Well, maybe not an official “blizzard”, but when the wind starts blowing, I can’t see more than 200 feet from my perch up here in my office. I had to look it up… a blizzard is “sustained 35 mph winds which cause visibilities of 1/4 mile or less, lasting for at least 3 hours”. Since there’s no wind now, I guess it’s not a blizzard.

Either way… hot tub, here I come.

Snowy

We’re expecting some pretty cold weather the next couple of days. Right now, it’s snowing… there’s been snow every day for at least a week, and next week looks the same.

The funny thing about the snow is that it’s hit or miss - it wasn’t snowing this morning, when I got up, but now it’s really coming down. That’s what Lake Effect Snow is. Here’s a radar image:

Buffalo Lake Effect Snow

I live 5 blocks north of Buffalo - see that red road circling the city? I live inside that circle. So the snow is right on top of us now, but it’s expected to swing up and down all weekend, so when it stops, I shovel.

Back from Camping

Jason & I are home from camping this weekend! When we got there, the cabin was a whopping 28° but we soon got it up to 60°. Friday night I didn’t sleep too good - I don’t think many of us did (except the snorers).

Saturday started with a huge breakfast, then we went for a quck hike, had a snowball fight, built an impressive 6′+ snowman, had lunch, then went snowshoeing (which is really hard for me to type).  Saturday evening we had a spaghetti dinner, then went on a night hike before coming back to a campfire.  We all slept better Saturday night, then packed up Sunday AM and came home.

We had a good time, and I’m already looking forward to going out again.

Feelin’ Good

I finished my third week of working out on a regular schedule today, and found some muscles I had previously forgotten about. I’ll have to add lunges to my chart, along with some other things that I’ve added in during the past three weeks.

Civ IV LogoYesterday was my birthday, so I took the afternoon off and played some Civ IV. I accidentally started a game on a harder level, and quickly realized I was losing, big time. So I started again on the easy level, and am doing good. Maybe I’ll wrap up the game tonight.

Tomorrow is the girl’s party at Build a Bear, then a family party on Sunday, then Disney on Ice on Thursday. Friday, Jason and I leave for a weekend of winter camping (in a heated cabin).

So, we have a busy week coming up. Somewhere in there, I have to take down the Christmas lights (yeah, they’re still up!). As long as they’re down before the party on Sunday, I’ll be happy. And “down” doesn’t mean “put away” - they’ll probably dry off in the basement for a couple days.

Found Cache

I went geocaching with Rob today and actually had SUCCESS!

I’ve tried this before, but my unit wasn’t very accurate and I wasn’t quite sure what I was looking for. However, today, we were able to complete both the Sheridan Park Multi-Cache and the Par 3, both at / near Sheridan Park in Tonawanda. I read up on some tricks to make my unit (a Garmin eTrex Vista Cx) get better reception, and now I know what the caches can look like.
So with these two, the total I’ve found is: 3. Yeah, I’ve got some searching to do to catch up with Rob’s 343.
