Longest 5K
September 10, 2007 // Comments are Closed
This past weekend I ran in the Letchworth 5K, known to me as the longest 5K race. Since I run with my Garmin, I’m able to track how far I actually run, compared to how the race officials measure the course. This time, it was 3.25 miles. Either way… still a hard race.
This was a 5K race, not a 5K run. There’s a big difference. I need to get into more races, if I want to do the Turkey Trot in 40 minutes.
You can see the course and details of my run here. My official time was 0:27:30 which is an 8:51 pace. I finished 76th overall, and 7th in the Male 20-29 group. Andy (now engaged!!!) crossed right behind me. Tom was with me for the first mile, then took off, finishing in 25:05, while his girlfriend kept up a 10:18 pace finishing in an even 32:00.
There’s another race at Delaware Park this weekend… I may do that to get more race experiences.

Plyometrics
April 20, 2007 // Comments are Closed
Yesterday, at the gym, I did a plyometrics routine. Afterwards, I stretched, went in the hot tub (twice), stretched in the tub, and stretched more last night.
Today, I can barely walk. I feel like an old man. My hamstrings are so tight, sitting down hurts, and standing up hurts even more. Hopefully, I’ll be OK tomorrow; or, at least a bit better.

Ran Today
April 18, 2007 // Comments are Closed

I ran today, first time in a while, aside from those sprints the other day. I kept it short, only 2-1/2 miles. I actually did pretty well, IMO.
Mile 1: 8:53, 127 calories
Mile 2: 8:38, 134 calories
Mile 0.52: 4:30 (8:39 pace), 70 calories
It’s slower than the end of last summer, but that’s understandable.

Just Another Post
March 30, 2007 // Comments are Closed
I’m waiting for a file to download, so I thought I’d post.
Let’s see… we’re looking to get the windows in our house replaced; the count is up to 24 now, plus a sliding glass door and 2 entry doors. That’s not cheap. But, it has to be done - our house just leaks in the winter (and summer).
Wednesday night, after going to the police station with the Cub Scouts, I walked up to Mike’s Subs (nice website!
) to get some food. Naturally, all that walking screwed up my knees, and I’m in incredible pain right now. That makes me a bear to put up with (I LOVE YOU, LAURA!).
After a few days of troubleshooting, Mr. Bishop figured out what was wrong w/ the hot tub, and stopped by today and took care of it, so when I’m done working tonight, I’ll have a nice hot tub to go soak in.
Ever notice how much Funky Cold Medina and Wild Thing by Tone-Loc sound the same?
I’m going to try running tomorrow - haven’t been running since January 6th. The sun is up about 7:00, so I plan on being at the track then and get some sprints in. I just have to find my Garmin & make sure it’s set-up and ready to go.
We’re going to try to go see Meet the Robinsons soon - maybe even tomorrow night. Just have to find a sitter for Morgan, because I know she won’t sit through a movie, even though Laura thinks she will.
And my file is still downloading.

Bad at Math
March 27, 2007 // Comments are Closed
I hit the gym today, like every other weekday, and like every Tuesday, started with Chest. When I started a few weeks ago, my flat-bench was a weak 115 - that’s the bar, and 2, 35-lb. weights on. Once I built up my stabilizing muscles, I was able to increase the weight and, last week, I reached 165.
So today, we throw on 2 45-lb plates, and 2-25 lb plates. With the bar, that’s 185 lbs - 15 more than I’ve ever done in my life, and I was able to get 4 reps out in the first set. Let me tell you, it was some heavy weight for me!
When I was done, I asked my trainer why we went from 165 to 185, skipping 175, and he then realized he screwed up the math, and I should’ve only been at 175. Oh well, now I have a new level to lift at! Not bad for someone weighing only 170…

Haven’t Mentioned Fitness Lately
February 16, 2007 // Comments are Closed
I haven’t blogged out my workout routine lately… mainly because I haven’t been running. Too cold, too dark, too snowy. However, I have been going to the gym.
The other day I asked one of the trainers a simple question about curls, and he ended up giving me an entirely new routine to work on. That’s a good thing: my old routine was, well, old, and I wasn’t getting much out of it. Also, with nobody but myself to report to, I was getting too relaxed.
Right now we’re focusing on technique, so I’m using low weights, but they’re still killing me. I feel like such a baby struggling with 15lb. dumbbells, while the old lady next to me uses 15’s, too. I even have a 5lb. dumbbell that I borrowed from Laura that I use while working, to help strengthen my left arm.
Today I worked on the stairmill, which will make bathroom breaks and coffee breaks today interesting, since I have to go down 2 floors. It’s an amazing little machine… burned about 225 calories in 15 minutes - I don’t think there’s any other machine that does that much to me.
