How to get a Logo Made

Steve launched a new blog, and got a crappy logo made.  I saw this contest a while back… now that’s how to get a logo done.  $60, and all those concepts and revisions?!?!  Can’t beat it.

New ericnagel.com site

I launched a new website for ericnagel.com this weekend:

ericnagel.com

Yep… 1 page. I don’t want any more business, so I removed everything else. Thanks to Chris for giving me the heads-up on the design, available at template monster.

Profitable Day

January 11th was a rather profitable day for me… no, not stocks, but playing with arbitrage & affiliate marketing.  See, I’ve got this site tailored to Garmin GPS’s, and I pay for traffic to the site, and the traffic earns me money.  How much?  Not worth my time, thus far.

But on January 11th, I made $22.57!  That’s $23.60 income, on $1.03 in expenses.

Now I haven’t been able to turn up the traffic, but that really helped my month ($28.28 on the month).  Things have continually gotten better; here are the daily averages, per month:

  • October, 2006:  ($0.38)
  • November, 2006:  $0.14
  • December, 2006:  $0.26
  • January, 2007:  $0.51 from Jan-1 to Jan-10; $2.36 month so far.

So, even without that big day, things have been getting better.  I’m trying a few other things, too; only investing about $100 at a time, just to test the water.  I had an idea about using eBay, too, which I’ll put in tonight.

Does Cisco Hate Puppies & Children, too?

So one of the most loved companies around, Apple, announces the coolest product since the Mac (uh, I’m talking about the iPhone, in case you’ve been hiding under a rock) and Cisco wants to stop them in court because they own the name “iPhone”.

I know there’s no such thing as bad PR, but common Cisco… don’t be a jerk. We all know you have no idea how to make an iPhone the way Apple does, you only trademarked “iPhone” because you knew it was coming.

Biggest ROI Day Yet

Yesterday was the biggest ROI day I’ve had so far with my arbitrage test - 1,950%.  I spent $0.10 and made $2.05, $1.95 in profit.  That’s about 6x my normal earnings, and much more than my average ROI of 24%.  I’ve pretty much turned off a lot of my ads, to try to determine which are working best.

In all, the planets were aligned, everything worked out and I had a good arbitrage day yesterday - it probably won’t continue like this.

Working from home

People are always looking for work at home business opportunities. Luckily, I have the ability to work from home, which has both pros and cons:

Pros

  • Easy commute
  • Less time commuting, which means more time working or spending time w/ the family
  • My dog is at work with me
  • Low overhead, versus having an office
  • Self-set dress code.  I do get dressed most days… occasionally I’ll come up here in my PJ’s
  • Save money on lunches - not going out every day saves tons!
  • Tax benefits - like my new front porch, 10% of which was paid by my business

Cons

  • My kids being loud, especially when I’m on the phone
  • Have to be very disciplined
  • Lack of human contact

As you can see, the Pros really outweigh the cons.  The biggest con, lack of human contact, is overcome with today’s technology like VOIP phones, instant messaging, and even webcams.
