Catching Up

Yeah, I know I haven’t written in a while. We got back from Disney late (24 hours late) and I’ve been busy catching up and getting to work. But I have a lot of photos to write captions for and upload, and a few blog posts waiting to be written. The ideas are in my notebook, I just have to get pen to paper fingers to keys. I’ll try really hard to write tonight.

To Overthrow Market Leaders

All the buzz lately has been about the Yahoo-Microsoft talks, which apparently aren’t going to happen now. Whatever - their alliance still won’t topple Google. Toppling Google would be like toppling eBay. There’s only 1 company that can topple eBay, and that’s…. eBay.

I’ve been reading about eBay’s new seller fees and how big-time sellers are all upset over it. There’s even this video on YouTube:

Could eBay’s recent changes be the beginning of the end to eBay? Is this the opportunity the competition is looking for?

I’m joining in on the eBay strike - I will not browse, bid, buy or sell on eBay February 18th through the 25th (while I’m in Disney ;) ).

Lost: Confirmed Dead

BuddyTV has a good recap of Lost from last night. The other day at Cub Scouts, we showed a promotional video about summer camp, so I had the projector out and decided to hook it up to the TV. Wow.

Watching Lost on an 8-foot screen with surround sound was amazing. And cleanup afterwards didn’t take too long, either. When Lost was over, and Eli Stone or whatever came on and I turned on the TV again, it looked SO tiny.

I’m going to miss Lost next week as I’ll be in the car, driving to Florida, but that’s what Tivos are for.

The Microsoft-Yahoo Antitrust Argument

Mycrosoft!

A Microsoft-Yahoo merger would dominate e-mail and instant messaging, and that could create obstacles with regulators.

Funny, I use gmail for my email, and Trillian, which encompasses AOL IM, ICQ, MSN, Y!Chat and Gtalk all in one. So if the Microsoft-Yahoo merger would “dominate” e-mail and IM, why am I not affected?

Norton AntiVirus 2008 Free After Rebates

While I already took advantage of Norton’s free upgrade to their 2008 version, Rob just told me you can get Symantec Norton AntiVirus 2008 - 3 User for free after $54 in rebates. Sweet!

I didn’t need it, but I bought it anyways. I’ll activate it once my current subscription runs out in September to give me another year of updates, or sell it on eBay.

Save on Burpee Seeds

For a while now, Laura and I have been planning the vegetable garden that we’d like to start this year. I guess it started with the compost bin, when I realized I’m going to have some rich compost, but no plans for it. We don’t have much room for a garden, so we’re looking to get the biggest bang for the buck and growing as much as we can vertically.

We’re looking to grow

  • Burpee seedsTomatoes
  • Peppers
  • Green beans
  • Cucumbers
  • Lettuce
  • Peas
  • Maybe Pumpkins
  • Spaghetti Squash
  • Zucchini
  • Butternut Squash

I have the Burpee seed catalog here, and have my order ready, but not yet sent (no use now, since I’m not planting the seeds until April 1, to transplant outside about May 15). Good thing I didn’t place my order, as yesterday while strolling around Home Depot, I found they sell Burpee seeds. Now I can save on shipping & handling.

However, ordering online typically gives free gifts (free sunflower seeds with $25 order), and I have a coupon for $5 off a $30 order. Enter code BA53 at checkout and you can save, too!

So, if you’re looking to get some Burpee seeds, use the coupon and save when ordering online, or stop by Home Depot and pick them up yourself.
