Kinda Depressed About This One
January 18, 2008 // 2 Comments
I’m not a big fan of my birthday. I mean, I do appreciate being alive for another year, but I don’t like being the center of attention and I really don’t like getting gifts. During Christmas, my favorite thing to do is to sit back and watch everyone else, especially the kids, open their gifts. The joy on their faces is what I look for.
Today, I turn 29. That’s a pretty depressing number for me. It seems so old. I think it’s the “9″ in there. 30 seems better than 29. Then again, I’m not turning 30, so I probably shouldn’t make that statement.
I sometimes think I haven’t accomplished much in these 29 years. That’s probably because I tend to hang out with people older than myself. Or maybe because things haven’t changed much in the past 3 years, since Morgan was born. There was so much going on from 2001 to 2005 (getting married, finishing grad. school, kids being born), but since 2005, I’ve felt like I’ve been on cruise control.
Luckily, my birthday doesn’t get dragged on, because my family loves April and we have lots of babies in January. After me on the 18th, there’s Mark & Morgan on the 20th, Kim on the 21st, Becca on the 22nd, and Laura on the 24th.
Well, here’s to another year. Hopefully I can at least get in the hot tub tonight.

Stop IMing Your Passwords
January 17, 2008 // Comments are Closed
Here’s a tip for you: stop IMing your buddies your passwords!
Well, duh. Why would anyone do this in the first place? Because sometimes you’ll be typing in your password and hit “Enter” then look up and realize your buddy IMed you just before you started typing, so you typed your password into the reply and sent it to him.
How do you stop from doing that? Well, you could learn how to type without looking at the keyboard (including special characters), or, when you’re ready to submit your password, use the mouse and click the button, rather than hitting enter.
It won’t help you Linux-folk who think the world should be green text on a black background, but for anyone using a GUI, this tip will prevent you from having to change your password to your bank account, after explaining to your co-worker what your contribution to the conversation really meant…
Co-worker: Hey, did you finish the report for the Peterson project?
You: loverboy69
Co-worker: What???
You: uh… I’m wrapping it up now.
Co-worker: OK, lover boy.

Reinvesting in Kenmore
January 16, 2008 // Comments are Closed
I like Kenmore… so much, in fact, that I actually considered getting involved in the Kenmore government a few months back when there was a vacancy, but I need to learn a lot more and get some things off my plate before I can really get involved. I went to a few neighborhood watch meetings, but they seemed to have died off.
Well, there was an article in the Buffalo News today about the Village, building permits and licenses.
People are reinvesting in the community, which is an important thing
I like hearing things like this. If only everyone cared about their home and the Village, it’d make it a much stronger community.
