Thank God it’s Monday
What a whirlwind of a weekend! I guess it started with a late night Friday - working ’til about 2AM. Of course, the kids don’t know (or care) if you’re up late, so 7:15 and they’re coming in the bedroom. I guess that’s OK, though, since I had a lot to do around the house. While sipping coffee, I started my list of what had to get done around the house. The biggies were to close the pool & clean the hot tub, which took all day Saturday to get done. Then my brother & his wife came over for dinner, and I crashed after they left (well, once Pingdom was happy again).
Sunday morning - same thing. Outside working by 9AM, as I emptied, swept, and tidied-up the garage. Laura added an item to my list: hang the Halloween lights. There’s just 3 strands, but when I went to put them up, the outlet at the front-porch had finally given up. That meant a trip to Home Depot and a completely new list!
While at Home Depot, I decided to stroll over to the doors, just to see what kind of options we have. Well, I think Laura and I will be there for a while when we pick out our new front door this week. I guess I haven’t mentioned yet that we’re replacing all the windows in the house, since many are the original windows from c. 1920 when the house was built. They leak air like mad, so we’re finally biting the bullet and replacing them all. In addition, we’re doing the sliding glass door in the rear of the house, and the front door (which also leaks air). Oh, and 2 storm doors. Yeah - it’s a big job. I’m glad I’m not doing the installation myself!
So after Home Depot, I started working on replacing the outlet in the front porch, only to realize the new outlet doesn’t fit the old box. So I had to rip out the box, make the hole bigger (cutting a hole in your house isn’t for the faint of heart), then put a new box, outlet, and cover in. I’m always afraid when I turn the power back on, but there was no fire, and now the lights are put up
There were a few things on my list that didn’t get done, and I’m constantly thinking of new things to add on, but I still got a lot done. It’s nice to get away from the computer once & a while, and to do some physical, not virtual, work.
Tomorrow the replacement fan for the bathroom should be delivered, so I can get that installed, then get the ladder out of our bedroom and back to the garage; then I can hang some hooks in the garage to get the deck chairs out of the way.
When projects go well, I like working on the house. When I’m done, I have a great sense of accomplishment. And after working on a computer all week, it’s actually fun to do something constructive (after demolition, that is!).
