Went to WalMart Friday night, got some mini CFLs for the ceiling fans and, so far so good. I can see what Chris is saying with the vibrations, especially considering ours are on 24/7 (sucking air UP during the winter, to push the hot air down, and pushing air DOWN during the summer, to create a cool breeze).

I also picked up some floodlights, for the motion detector outside.

If it's an enclosed CFL, it's probably approved for outdoor use and will be marked as such. There are two considerations for outdoor bulbs: thermal protection, and weatherproofing.

Let us know how the ceiling fans CFLs hold out. The vibration is rough on the ballast, but maybe you'll do just fine.
