Blog changes

Hi, and thanks for stopping by! We've made some big changes to the blog - including shutting it down! With social networking and micro-blogging these days, there's no need for us to blog. So check out the latest on our homepage, and thanks for visiting.

Christmas Lights, 2006

Some of your have seen them in person; for others, this is the best way I can share my Christmas lights with you this year. There are nearly 2,300 lights, choreographed to 20 Christmas songs, including Carol of the Bells by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Here’s a video, taken at night:

I think this was a good start, and with room for 5,000 more lights in the system, leaves me room to grow over the next couple of years. Here’s what you see in the video:

  • Inflatable snowman to the left
  • Inflatable Santa in the center
  • Wreath up top, on the 2nd floor
  • Icicle lights hanging down from the porch roof
  • Net lights covering the porch railings
  • 2 candy-cane lights at the base of the stairs
  • Tree wraps, covering the porch posts
  • Colored icicle lights and string lights around the front window

This entire system is controlled by the Mr. Christmas Lights and Sounds of Christmas and lots of extension cords. I had to re-record the audio so it sounds better than the original video (complete with car racing by). I’ll take photos and post to the gallery soon. Until then, enjoy the video, and stop by from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm to see the show (we’re only running at those times, to keep the neighbors from hating us too much)!

[...] So, we have a busy week coming up.  Somewhere in there, I have to take down the Christmas lights (yeah, they’re still up!).  As long as they’re down before the party on Sunday, I’ll be happy.  And “down” doesn’t mean “put away” – they’ll probably dry off in the basement for a couple days. [...] leave the lights on all around the house. You’d think I love wasting energy, what with my extravagant Christmas lights display and all. But really, my electric bill went up only $5 in December and January from that show – [...]
