We’ve got power!
After 189 hours (7 days, 21 hours) without power, the lights finally came back on at home today! Just in time, too – about 10 minutes later, the generator ran out of gas! Talk about good timing…
Our network came right up once the power was restored – somehow, the local Time Warner server was relying on the same power grid as us, so even hooking my stuff up to the generator didn’t put me back to work. I have to look into a “Plan B” for Internet access next time.
I’ve got lots of pictures… mainly for the insurance adjustor, but I’ll share them with you, too. Some were posted on Wednesday, in my previous post, but I’ll post them all soon. Too bad Picasa only gives 250 MB for photo sharing.
Now, it’s onto cleaning my Inbox and catching up on work. Losing this much time really hurt – I don’t even know what I was working on last Thursday when this all started!
At least now I have a generator and lots of flashlights, for the next time this happens (yes, I believe there will be a “next time”). While I’m not really sure, I think the total economic impact on our household was around $7,000 in losses, repairs, additional equipment, and lost revenue. We’ve got some catching up to do now.

1) Get Verizon DSL and merge with Roadrunner to double your bandwidth.
2) Get a flickr pro account [$25/yr I think]
3) Return my flashlight!
