Nonsensical ramblings on an all-too-hot day

1st Aug 2006Uncategorized

Many summer-school sessions are closed today. Why? Because we live in Buffalo and we’re having a snowstorm on August 1st. Right? Doesn’t it always snow in Buffalo?

Well, OK – not really. It’s the heat (97° today and tomorrow), which we don’t have to put up with the other 10 months of the year (only July and August are really HOT), so our schools aren’t air conditioned. Jason’s off this week, anyways. To avoid the heat, I ran at 6:00 this morning, then took a dip in the pool and practiced breathing the total immersion way. It’s been a while, but I did OK. Maybe I’ll swim at the AFC on Thursday morning, if it’s raining too hard.

So the A/C is pumping here… thinking about getting a Mr. Slim unit next year but for now, we have 3 window units and a curtain at the top of the stairs to keep the cool air UP, and the hot air DOWN. Yeah – working against physics here. I guess the other option is we all sleep in the basement, but I did enough of that as a kid.

Since it’s August 1st (Happy Birthday Mom Bishop), I spent this AM doing invoices and getting a deposit ready for the bank. While at the bank, I saw the same old FDIC sign, which says my money is safe up to $100,000. It’s been like that for as long as I can remember, and I thought I’d do some research on the matter. Turns out it started as $10,000 in 1933, which adjusted for inflation is $155,165.43 of 2005 dollars. Looks like we’re getting the short end of the stick here. Not that I’m coming close to having $100,000 in the bank. Oh well.

PS – Nonsensical is a real word.
