Buffalo’s economy

4th Aug 2006Uncategorized

I just wanted to make a post, so I can look back in 6, 9, or 12 months and see if anything has changed. Here we go:

  • Bass Pro Shop is “scheduled” to move into the old Aud. This project has been quiet for a while, which worries me.
  • An ethanol company will be moving into the old grain elevators on the waterfront. This one probably has the greatest likelihood of success, IMO. Only because here’s a company that is building in Buffalo, without asking for public funding. The way business should be done.
  • A “Wizard of Oz” theme park is coming to Niagara Falls. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha… Yeah, right. It’ll be most popular during the 6 months of winter we have here. Why go to Disney World where it’s sunny and 70-80 during the winter when you can come to Oz-Land an truly experience the snow that The Good Witch sent down to wake up Dorthy?
  • The downtown Buffalo casino will be smaller now that the city screwed things up. That is, if it happens at all. I can’t wait for NYS to claim the land under eminent domain and then turn around and sell it to the Senecas. Yeah! Stick it to ‘em!
  • Seriously… do we really need to force the Seneca’s to give jobs to city residents? It’s not like people will be commuting from Erie, PA to work here. So what if a Cheektowagian wants to work in the city – is that such a bad thing? Heck, he’ll probably take the 190 to work, and you make an extra $0.75 / day. Speaking of which, when are those tolls coming down?
  • Williamsville tolls are going to be moved. Construction
  • This nut wants to consolidate police forces (BTW – I’m writing to Mayor Beaumont to fight against Giambra’s idea). When is Joel’s term up, anyway? Seems like he’s been around way too long. Let’s elect Carl Paladino to be Buffalo’s mayor and Erie County Executive. Then we’ll get things done around here. Who cares if the grain elevator is “historic” – nobody’s preserving it… it’s just falling down.

So there’s my list… how many do you think will be done in 6, 9, or 12 months? I’m guessing 2 will be in progress in 12 months. In the meantime, I’m sure we’ll have further talks & pretty drawings of waterfront development, and there’ll still be rats in Kenmore.
