World stunned as US struggles with Katrina – Yahoo! News

I read this the other day and was indifferent with this story… then I watched a few minutes of news coverage last night, learned of children being raped and gangs shooting at diminishing police patrols, and now I agree:

“I am absolutely disgusted. After the tsunami our people, even the ones who lost everything, wanted to help the others who were suffering,” said Sajeewa Chinthaka, 36, as he watched a cricket match in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

“Not a single tourist caught in the tsunami was mugged. Now with all this happening in the U.S. we can easily see where the civilized part of the world’s population is.”

I agree – and the stories being told by children are the worst. Hearing kids telling stories of wading past dead bodies floating in the water (with bullet wounds in the head) is heartbreaking… they just seem so accepting of it after what they’ve been through over the past week. I really wonder how seeing things like that (on top of everything else happening to them) will affect these children as they grow up.
