Got spam?

9th Aug 2005Uncategorized

I got a piece of spam today. To most people, that statement wouldn’t be shocking but to me, it is. See, I use this complex system where, if you e-mail me, you have to respond to an e-mail sent back to you. Spammers tend to send tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of e-mails at once and if they actually check the mailbox they sent the mail from, they typically don’t take the time to respond to my authentication challenge.

How much spam do I get? Well, since I signed up for this service, in September (of 2003?), I’ve received 10,944 valid e-mails (including newsletters I signed up for and hundreds of error messages from my server (thanks, Steve) out of 99,833 total messages processed. I should hit 100,000 this week.

In addition, this great service also does virus protection… so they’ll virus scan my e-mail, authenticate the user, and only then deliver it to me. What a deal.

If you signup, here’s a hint: when your account is about to expire, they’ll give you an offer… like I just got 14 months for the price of 12. So sign up for the 6 month service and wait for an offer to be presented to you.

No, this isn’t an ad – this is a testimonial. Sure, I get a cut if you sign up, but really, I’m telling you this because it fixes the spam problem. Spam is no longer a problem for me! What a great thing.
