Scout’s First Trial

16th Jul 2005Uncategorized

Today was Scout’s first agility trial. She was entered in a CPE trial at All Dawgs in N. Tonawanda, NY. Scout had three runs: standard, “jackpot” and “full house”. Standard is like what you see on TV (ESPN 2, if you’re looking). There’s a standard course, and the goal is to finish in the lowest time. Well, Scout was doing OK, until the jumped the fence into the audience and someone else grabbed her. That disqualified us.

In “jackpot”, the object is to score the most amount of points in a set time. Then, after that time, there are 4 obstacles to do in a row, ending with the dog standing on a table. Well, we couldn’t get the 4 obstacles in a row, and another dog was on the course when we were finishing, so we lost some time there, but still managed to get 3rd place.

Finally, “full house” (similiar to jackpot, but the dog must jump at least 3 single jumps, 2 circular things (tunnels, chute, tire jump) and 1 contact (or weave poles) Scout had a clean run (qualifying time; a “Q”) and placed 2nd.

So now Scout has 3 ribbons from today – I’m so proud of her :) I can’t wait ’til next class.

In 2 weeks, we’re going herding up in Canada – that should be interesting ;)
